The Town of Huntington, in partnership with the Economic Development
Corporation of Huntington, intends to complete a Pre-nomination
Study for an approximate 640-acre area characterized with 3 potential
brownfield sites that are located in the Town of Huntington. The
Huntington Station Transportation Hub consists of a collection
of industrial storage facilities, underdeveloped sites, and retail
sites. Three suspected brownfield sites impede planned municipal
infrastructure improvements and private sector redevelopment.
The Town of Babylon, in partnership with the Wyandanch Community
Development Corporation and Sustainable Long Island, intends to
complete a Nomination Study for an approximate 1,055-acre area
characterized with 250 potential brownfield sites that are located
in the Wyandanch community. A major objective is to return contaminated
and abandoned properties back to active use within the parameters
of the Wyandanch Rising Vision Plan.
The City of Long Beach intends to complete a Pre-nomination Study
for a 140-acre study area characterized with 13 to 24 potential
brownfield sites that are located on Reynolds Channel. The City
seeks funding to revitalize the waterfront and stimulate the social
and economic quality of life for the surrounding residential community.
The area contains a series of potential brownfield sites, both
publicly and privately owned, that represent a detriment to the
area and the surrounding community.
The Town of Oyster Bay intends to complete a Pre-nomination Study
for an area located in Hicksville along State Route 107 (South
Broadway/Hicksville Road) that is characterized with 10 potential
brownfield sites.
The Town of North Hempstead intends to complete a Nomination Study
for an approximate 430-acre study area, characterized with 48
potential brownfield sites, within the New Cassel hamlet located
in the northwest portion of the Town of North Hempstead. The Town
seeks to continue its efforts to transform blighted and contaminated
areas into vibrant places consisting of mixed-use retail, new
affordable housing, business incubators, and recreational areas.

The West Brighton Community Local Development Corporation intends
to complete a Pre-nomination Study along Richmond Terrace and
the Kill Van Kull waterfront which is characterized with several
potential brownfield sites. Project objectives are to provide
a preliminary description and analysis of the proposed area with
a more detailed analysis along the Kill Van Kull.
The Greater Jamaica Development Corporation (GJDC) intends to
complete a Nomination Study for approximately 40 blocks located
wholly within the South Jamaica Empire Zone and primarily within
the City-designated In-Place Industrial Park (IPIP) in Queens,
Community District 12. A recent survey indicates a high concentration
of underutilized sites within the study area, many of which have
environmental complications. The GJDC seeks funding to build on
numerous concurrent and complimentary efforts - both private and
public - underway in and around the proposed project area.
The Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice, in partnership with
The Point Community Development Corporation, Sustainable South
Bronx, Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation and the
Pratt Institute, intends to complete a Nomination Study for an
approximate 800-acre area characterized with 150 to 200 potential
brownfield sites that are located on the Hunt's Point Peninsula
adjacent to the East River and Bronx River. Project objectives
are to: develop strategies that will address community needs for
open space, affordable housing, and living wage jobs; build a
foundation for future growth by enhancing the environmental and
economic performance of the area's regionally significant industrial
sectors; and reclaim the area's waterfront as a unique environmental
and economic asset.
The Carroll Gardens Association, Inc. intends to complete a Pre-nomination
Study for a study area that includes the neighborhoods of Red
Hook, the Columbia Street District, Carroll Gardens and Gowanus.
These areas are characterized with hundreds of potential brownfield
sites that are located throughout the area and along the East
River, Gowanus Canal, and Buttermilk Channel. This project will
identify brownfield opportunities and nominate selected sites
for investigation and rehabilitation for recreational open space,
housing or other beneficial uses.
The SoBRO Development Corporation intends to complete a Pre-nomination
Study for an approximate 2,000-acre study area, characterized
with 8 potential brownfield sites, within the Port Morris area
of the South Bronx on the Harlem River. SoBRO intends to analyze
and determine the extent of contamination of identified brownfield
sites and create a plan for the remediation and redevelopment
for industrial, commercial, and residential uses.
The Bronx Council for Environmental Quality intends to complete
a Pre-nomination Study for an approximate 5,000-acre study area
characterized with multiple potential brownfield sites that are
located along the Harlem River. The Council seeks to evaluate
an area bordering the Harlem River that is an economically distressed
area and includes a high concentration of brownfields and significant,
yet degraded natural resources. Project objectives are to accomplish
community redevelopment and revitalization, including new housing
and recreation opportunities, and improved transportation facilities
and infrastructure.
UPROSE intends to complete a Nomination Study for the Sunset Park
area that is characterized with several potential brownfield sites,
located near Red Hook Channel and Gowanus Bay in Brooklyn. Project
objectives are to connect the community of Sunset Park to the
waterfront, prioritize the redevelopment of brownfield sites on
1st through 3rd Avenues, and to coordinate redevelopment projects
in a way that will yield positive effects by transforming sites
into viable open spaces and environmentally sustainable businesses.
The Local Development Corporation of East New York intends to
complete a Nomination Study for an approximate 588-acre area characterized
with 115 potential brownfield sites. The project goal is to remediate
and redevelop five specific sub areas that will have the most
significant impact on the economy, quality of life, and general
health of the East New York community.
The City of New York City, in partnership with Audubon Partnership
for Economic Development, intends to complete a Nomination Study
for an approximate 190 acre study area characterized with several
potential brownfield sites that are located in northern Manhattan
on Harlem River and Sherman Creek. Opportunities exist for new
residential and commercial development, as well as waterfront
recreation in an area currently occupied with many surface parking
and utility uses.
The New York City Economic Development Corporation, in partnership
with St. Nicholas Neighborhood Preservation Corporation, intends
to complete a Pre-nomination Study for an approximate 600-acre
study area, characterized with more than 60 potential brownfield
sites, within the East Williamsburg Industrial Park in North Brooklyn.
The project will create job opportunities for neighborhood residents
and attract new businesses to underutilized and brownfield sites.

Yonkers Brownfield Solutions, Inc. intends to complete an Implementation
Strategy and Site Assessments for the Alexander Street waterfront
area on the Hudson River. Project objectives are to attract large-scale
development opportunities to the downtown Yonkers waterfront,
and to provide new waterfront access, and housing opportunities
on land along the Yonkers waterfront.
The City of Poughkeepsie intends to complete a Pre-nomination
Study for an approximate 640-acre area characterized with 8 to
11 potential brownfield sites that are located in downtown and
along the Fallkill Creek/Hudson River corridor.
Yonkers Brownfield Solutions, Inc. intends to complete an Implementation
Strategy and Site Assessments for the Nepperhan Valley area that
is adjacent to the Saw Mill River. Project objectives are to attract
large-scale development opportunities to the Nepperhan Valley
and provide new jobs and services through remediation of former
abandoned or underutilized sites.
The City of Kingston intends to complete an Implementation Strategy
for a study area characterized with at least 27 potential brownfield
sites that are located primarily east of the Rondout business
district along the Rondout and Hudson River waterfronts.
The City of Newburgh intends to complete a Nomination Study for
an approximate 370-acre area characterized with 140 potential
brownfield sites that are located in the City's southeast portion
on the Hudson River. The City aims to foster redevelopment and
revitalization in one of the racially diverse and lowest income
areas of the city.
Yonkers Brownfield Solutions, Inc. intends to complete a Pre-nomination
Study for the Lower West Side in the City of Yonkers. The project
objective is to attract large-scale development opportunities
to the downtown Yonkers Hudson River waterfront, and to provide
new waterfront access, and housing opportunities on land along
the Lower West Side.

The City of Troy intends to complete a Pre-nomination Study for
an approximate 600-acre study area, characterized with 17 potential
brownfield sites that are located in the North-Central neighborhood
on the Hudson River north of the City's downtown. Project objectives
are to redevelop North-Central riverfront and provide for public
amenities. The project aims to reverse property depreciation due
to abandoned industrial properties, limited access to riverfront
properties, environmental contamination, and job loss.
The City of Amsterdam intends to complete a Nomination Study for
an approximate 30-acre area characterized with 15 potential brownfield
sites that are located on the south side of the Mohawk River.
The City has identified that the redevelopment of the Chalmers
Building, and other improvements will have a positive economic
affect on the South Side neighborhood and commercial district.
The City of Troy intends to complete a Nomination Study for an
approximate 208-acre area characterized with 54 potential brownfield
sites that are located in southern Troy adjacent to the Hudson
River. Project objectives are to redevelop priority sites compatible
with the City's historic downtown and adjacent residential areas.
The City of Schenectady intends to complete a Pre-nomination Study
for an approximate 4,000-acre area characterized with eight potential
brownfield sites located along the Mohawk River, downtown and
residential areas. This project is part of an effort to revitalize
the local economy. Potential environmental conditions associated
with the city's manufacturing history have become a barrier due
to known or perceived contamination at properties with high redevelopment
potential.
The City of Albany intends to complete a Pre-nomination Study
for an approximate 2,800-acre study area. The City seeks to revive
its commercial and residential neighborhoods through the redevelopment
of brownfields located throughout the City.
The Town of Glenville intends to complete a Pre-nomination Study
for an estimated 50- to 100-acre study area characterized with
potential brownfield sites that are located in the Scotia-Glenville
Industrial Park. The project will address the issues of potential
contamination, under-utilization and blight within and surrounding
the Industrial Park, Corporations Park and the Burgess property.
This project will aid community efforts to implement a strategic
redevelopment plan to revitalize properties and promote economic
development.
The City of Cohoes intends to complete a Pre-nomination Study
for an approximate 3,700-acre study area located along the Hudson
and Mohawk Rivers and downtown. Due to the city's industrial history,
redevelopment of many properties is hindered by suspected environmental
concerns. Project objectives are to promote commercial development
in areas adjacent to the city's transportation corridors and historic
business district, and to improve public access to, and recreational
use of, the city's waterfront.

The Town of Fort Edward intends to complete a Pre-nomination Study
for an approximate 4,800-acre area characterized with 12 potential
brownfield sites that are located on the Hudson River in the Town
and Village of Fort Edward. A primary objective is the adaptive
reuse of areas and buildings to protect open space, promote economic
development, improve housing conditions, protect groundwater sources
and strengthen public infrastructure.
The City of Glens Falls intends to complete a Pre-nomination Study
for an approximate 1,300-acre area characterized with 35 to 45
potential brownfield sites that are located in the city's downtown
and along the Hudson River. The City seeks to redevelop vacant
and underutilized properties, and reuse existing buildings to
encourage new business investment, foster job-creation, and to
improve related infrastructure, recreational and cultural resources.
The City of Plattsburgh intends to complete a Pre-nomination Study
for an approximate 1,300-acre area characterized with 50 to 60
potential brownfield sites that are located in their downtown
and along Lake Champlain. A primary objective is to facilitate
the investigation, cleanup, and redevelopment of brownfields in
ways that return properties to productive uses, improve and enhance
the City's natural and built environments, and implement the goals
of the City's downtown and waterfront revitalization initiatives
The Town and Village of Stillwater intend to complete a Pre-nomination
Study for an approximate 2,650-acre area characterized with up
to 13 brownfield sites that are located along the Hudson River
and inland areas located in the Town and Village. Project objectives
are to identify lands that are contaminated and to foster key
economic development and community revitalization projects that
will benefit the local community.
The City of Johnstown intends to complete a Pre-nomination Study
for an approximate 4,000-acre area characterized with more than
24 potential brownfield sites. The City's objectives are to redevelop
brownfields for residential, commercial, and light industrial
uses and tourist attractions.
The Village of Victory intends to complete a Pre-nomination Study
for an approximate 14-acre brownfield area characterized with
several parcels that are located along Fish Creek, a tributary
to the Hudson River. The Village seeks to spur revitalization
of the Village by cleaning-up and reusing an abandoned mill site
and adjacent vacant and abandoned properties to create new businesses
and employment opportunities.
The Village of Hudson Falls, in partnership with Hudson Falls
Business Association and the Feeder Canal Alliance, intends to
complete a Pre-nomination Study for an approximate 500-acre area
characterized with seven or more potential brownfield sites that
are located near the Hudson River and throughout the Village.
Most of the industrial operations have closed leaving behind contaminated
lands and abandoned buildings. The project objectives are to facilitate
redevelopment, improve key sites in a way that provides economic
growth, develops recreational opportunities and improves the adjacent
low and moderate-income residential neighborhoods.

The Utica Brownfield Revitalization Corporation intends to complete
a Nomination Study for an approximate 840 (Zones 1 and 1A) acres
in the vicinity of the City's waterfront and adjacent gateway
area that has a concentration of brownfield sites. The project
will guide property reuse, create public greenspace, and maximize
redevelopment projects in strategic areas and corridors, and begin
to reverse the blight that has slowed the city's growth and negatively
affected its communities. The Utica Brownfield Revitalization
Corporation also intends to complete a Pre-nomination Study for
an approximate 3,200-acre study area located south of the waterfront
and gateway area.
The City of Rome requests assistance for 200-acre area characterized
with 26 potential brownfields located along the Mohawk River and
Erie Canal. The City's goals are to redevelop the 200-acre industrial
area as a modern business park with mixed use. Redevelopment will
positively affect the City through job growth, business expansion,
increased recreational opportunities, and environmental remediation.
The City of Watertown intends to complete a Pre-nomination Study
for an approximate 2,300-acre area characterized with more than
100 possible brownfield sites located along the Black River. The
City seeks to take advantage of the recreation and tourism potential
of the Black River corridor by establishing new connections to
and along the river, redeveloping brownfield sites adjacent to
the river, and located in the business district and the surrounding
neighborhoods.

Oswego County intends to complete a Nomination Study for an approximate
16,000-acre area characterized with 71 potential brownfield sites
that are located on the Oswego Canal Corridor, which contains
more than 70 underutilized or vacant sites.
The City of Syracuse, in partnership with Rebuild Syracuse, Inc.,
intends to complete a Nomination Study for an area characterized
with up to 99 potential brownfield sites that are located near
the Onondaga Lake's Inner Harbor and residential areas. The City's
goal is to facilitate the redevelopment and investment in three
neighborhoods that have been affected by the loss of industry
and residents.
The City of Norwich intends to complete a Pre-nomination Study
for an approximate 800-acre area characterized with six potential
brownfield sites located in the eastern portion of the City. The
City has several older, vacant and underutilized industrial sites
located in and around residential areas. Many sites are an impediment
to neighborhood revitalization and an opportunity for redevelopment.
Broome County intends to complete a Nomination Study for an approximate
230-acre area, known as the former EJ Industrial Spine, characterized
with seven brownfield sites that are located near NYS Route 17
in the City of Binghamton and the Village of Johnson City. The
project will develop a plan for realistic redevelopment options
and economic development.

The Monroe County Department of Environmental Services intends
to complete a Pre-nomination Study for Renaissance Square, which
is located in downtown Rochester and is approximately three acres
in size. The area is characterized with 15 potential brownfield
sites. The County's objective is to revitalize the area through
three catalytic projects: a new transportation facility, a downtown
community college campus, and a performing arts center. The County
also intends to complete Pre-nomination Studies for Airport/Buell
Road area in the Town of Gates which is approximately 96 acres
in size and for an area located in the eastern portion of the
City of Rochester where there is a concentration of potential
brownfield sites.
The City of Rochester intends to complete a Pre-nomination Study
for an approximate 394-acre study area characterized with an estimated
150 brownfield sites that are located west of the Genesse River.
The project goal is to complete brownfield redevelop strategies
that build on existing community assets and recent redevelopment
successes to create opportunities for jobs and achieve community
revitalization.
The Rochester Economic Development Corporation intends to complete
an Implementation Strategy and Site Assessments for an approximate
30-acre study area characterized with 13 brownfield sites that
are located on Anderson Avenue and Goodman Streets. Project objectives
are to continue to revitalize the Neighborhood of the Arts through
planning and remedial investigations to establish vibrant new
uses and housing opportunities. City of Jamestown - Step 1 $74,000
The City of Jamestown, in partnership with the Jamestown Urban
Renewal Agency, intends to complete a Pre-nomination Study for
a 1,200-acre study area characterized with 35 to 50 brownfield
sites, located along the Chadakoin River. The City seeks assistance
to return unused industrial sites to productive uses, as part
of a long-term strategy to reclaim long-vacant and underutilized
properties.

The City of Niagara Falls, in partnership with the Highland Community
Revitalization Committee, intends to complete a Nomination Study
for an approximate 560-acre area characterized with 15 potential
brownfield sites that are concentrated in the Highland community.
The City intends to redevelop the Highland Area Community in a
manner that takes advantage of its close proximity to major roadways,
railroads, and a nearby airport and to enhance the area for residents
and businesses.
The City of Lockport intends to complete a Pre-nomination Study
for an approximate 5,000-acre study area characterized with at
least 18 potential brownfield sites. The project objectives are
to increase business growth along the Erie Canal and enhance the
perception of Lockport as a tourist destination. The project will
address significant environmental and economic issues.
The City of Dunkirk, in partnership with the Dunkirk Local Development
Corporation, intends to complete a Pre-nomination Study for an
area characterized with more than 14 potential brownfield sites.
The City intends to stimulate redevelopment by taking advantage
of its unique geography, existing infrastructure, and existing
economic sectors, primarily food processing and tourism, to improve
the city's economy.
The City of Niagara Falls intends to complete a Pre-nomination
Study for an approximate 1,100-acre area characterized with 30
to 45 brownfield sites that are located in the Buffalo Avenue
corridor. The city has experienced significant declines in population,
household income, and property value due to the loss of their
industrial and manufacturing base. The downsizing and closure
of industries yielded a substantial number of brownfield sites.
Project objectives are to redevelop the corridor to take advantage
of opportunities for new businesses, to increase tourism, increase
open space for use by residents and tourists, and enhance the
area's natural resources.
The Amherst Industrial Development Agency intends to complete
a Pre-nomination Study for an approximate 108-acre study area
characterized with 53 potential brownfield sites that are located
in the Town of Amherst. Project objectives are to assess conditions
to better understand opportunities in areas that exhibits high
commercial vacancy rates despite a stable population base, extensive
municipal investment and the growing popularity of commercial
areas immediately adjacent to the study area.
The City of Olean, in partnership with the Cattaraugus Empire
Zone Corporation, intends to complete a Pre-nomination Study for
an approximate 500-acre study area that is characterized with
11 potential brownfield sites that are located in the northwest
portion of the City. Project objectives are to identify and assess
multiple brownfields and to develop a plan for their cleanup and
redevelopment. This will result in economic growth in terms of
new businesses, jobs and an expanded tax base, and the enhancement
of the link between the recently designated Interstate 86 corridor
and the City's central business district.
The City of Buffalo intends to complete a Nomination Study for an approximate
1,800-acre area characterized with 11 brownfield sites that are located
in the southern portion of the City. The area is south of the Buffalo
River and straddles a rail yard complex. The study area had a mix of
heavy industrial, commercial and residential uses and formerly served
heavy steel manufacturing industries. The project will result in the
selection of strategic parcels for redevelopment. TOTAL : $7,630,538
